Trigger Finger

What is trigger finger?
It´s the entrapment or blocking of the finger flexor tendon that occurs during the movement.

The finger motion´s simulates the effect of the trigger of a revolver gun when this fired.

Why does this occur?
Tendons are fibrous cords that have the function of moving structures. These tendons mainteined close to the bone with structures known as pulleys. The swollen of this structure cause their entrapment or blocking, producing the symptoms.

What are the symptoms?
The first symptom is the difficult to extend the affected finger, especially in the morning or when patient perfoming manual tasks.

About medical treatment
– Antiinflammatory drugs.
– Local drug application (infiltration).
– Physical therapy.

When is the best time to performed surgical treatment?
It´s indicated in cases that doesn´t improve their symptoms with medical treatment.

What about the surgery?
It´s a very simple surgery which requires open the pulley that is affected, in order to allow free travel of the tendon. The recovery is immediate, allowing the patient to initiate movement after surgery and reintegrated to their daily activities within 2 weeks.
