Every doctor has as an ethical and moral principle to help the patient in the cure of his illness. For this, the physician makes use of all his knowledge and experience in order to implement the appropriate treatment for each case, always seeking the physical and mental well-being of the patient.

The word treatment comes from the Greek θεραπεία / therapeia which means medical treatment and is defined as the set of means of any kind, whether hygienic, pharmacological, surgical or physical, whose purpose is the cure or relief (palliation) of diseases or symptoms.

In General, there are 2 types of tratment: The Medical & Surgical Treatment.

Medical treatment
It is one that bases its principle on physical, chemical and / or biological methods to solve a disease. Speaking specifically of hand surgery we refer to use of drugs, physical therapy, rest, splints and casts.
Surgical treatment
The term surgery comes from the Greek χείρ / jeir which means hand and ἔργον / érgon which means work (where χειρουργεία / jeirourgéia refers to manual work), and involves the mechanical manipulation of anatomical structures, which in this case is performed with a therapeutic goal.

It is important to clarify that not all patients require surgical treatment, but almost all need to start with medical treatment.
