The term “osteoarthritis” refers to the wear of the articular cartilage, which acts as a “lubricant” between two bony surfaces.
The clinical data of osteoarthritis are: pain, inflammation and joint deformity.
The treatment depends on the degree of wear, age, affected site and patient activity. In general, osteoarthritis of the distal interphalangeal joint (as in the photo) is managed surgically by means of arthrodesis (joint fusion) either using a screw or nails / wires.
The purpose of the treatment is to remove pain, improve joint alignment and thus the aesthetics of the hand.
At Baja Hand Clinic we specialize in the treatment of these injuries, whether in the wrist or finger region.
